- Design, develop, and maintain student tutorials to support a large-scale computer-based assessment and learning system which, in 2006, delivered 2.7 million computer-based statewide NCLB assessments. Up to 50,000 tutorial views per month.
- Design, develop and maintain teacher instructions that support the computer-based formative assessment system for the state of Kansas (KCA TestBuilder).
- Lead user interface (UI) and user interaction (UX) designer for the KCA TestBuilder project. Daily tasks include W3C and Section 508 web standard and accessibility audits, Screening with JAWS 8.0, user experience research, interaction design, visual interface design, and coding with XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XSLT. Work in conjunction with system architects and programmers.
- Lead user interface (UI), user interaction (UX), accessibility, and XHTML consultant for the various state support sites, including Kansas, Idaho, Oklahoma, Alaska, and South Carolina.
- Present design concepts using scenarios, storyboards, wireframes, flowcharts, and working prototypes. Proposed, installed, and maintain a UI development blog (Wordpress) that facilitates project communication and promotes institutional memory for discussion, decisions, and milestones. Prototype with Visio or Acrobat8.
- Daily skills: Advanced XHTML and CSS explorations; Keyboard navigation prototypes, Progressive enhancement and unobtrusive DOM JavaScript, Mootools, AJAX, PHP, MySQL, Adobe CS3, Captivate, JSP, Velocity, Apache, Tomcat, Mason, XML, XSLT, and Xpath, AS2, and Flash 7r63 players. I also write utility Perl scripts and bat files, and use Cygwin, rsync, SSH, CVS, SVN, and Mantis. I use both Windows XP and OS X, and I'm familiar with UNIX.
